ACal Technologies, Unit 55 Briarhill Business Park, Ballybrit, Galway.

are currently seeking a number of Electrical Apprentices.

With an ACal Technologies apprenticeship, you will have the opportunity to gain the following qualification:

QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate Craft – Electrical

What does an ACal Electrician do?

As an ACal electrician you will be involved in the design, manufacture, installation, commissioning, testing and maintenance of various control systems in industrial applications. Your work will range from wiring complex systems involving process control and maintenance in industrial plants, pharmaceutical, aeronautical and R&D Labs.

Electricians also service, maintain and repair electrical equipment as part of preventative maintenance routines.

Once part of the ACal team, you will acquire many skills, including:

• Design & manufacture of electrical control systems

• Planning and organising the installation of electrical systems

• Inspecting and testing of electrical systems and fault diagnosis

• Performing routine maintenance and repairs on electrical systems

• Knowledge and application of Health and Safety Procedures

• Interpreting technical drawings and specifications

Being physically active and able to work with your hands is important for all ACal electricians. An awareness of health and safety and good housekeeping is essential as well as attention to detail. Our electricians must be able to:

• Plan and organise

• Communicate effectively

• Solve problems

• Work independently and as part of a team

• Show a positive attitude

• Recognise the need for good customer relations

• Demonstrate good work practices including time keeping, tidiness, responsibility, quality awareness and safety awareness.

Minimum Course Requirements

Grade D in five subjects in the Department of Education & Skills Junior Certificate Examination or an approved equivalent.

OR

The successful completion of an approved Pre-Apprenticeship course

OR

Three years’ work experience gained over sixteen years of age in a relevant designated industrial activity as SOLAS shall deem acceptable

QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate Craft – Electrical course modules

This apprenticeship is a 4 year programme consisting of 7 phases. 4 on-the-job and 3 off-the-job in a training facility.

Applicants will be paid apprenticeship rates during work placement

What does QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate Craft – Electrical involve?

This programme combines taught modules with blocks of work placement.

Phase 1: Minimum 3 Months – On the Job (with ACal)

Phase 2: Generally 22 Weeks – Off the Job (in SOLAS Training Facility)

Phase 3: Minimum 6 Months – On the Job (with ACal)

Phase 4: Generally 11 Weeks – Off the Job (in SOLAS Training Facility)

Phase 5: Minimum 6 Months – On the Job (with ACal)

Phase 6: Generally 11 Weeks – Off the Job (in SOLAS Training Facility)

Phase 7: Minimum 3 Months – On the Job (with ACal)

Thanks to the work experience, you’ll get the chance to apply your learning, be coached by industry experts and develop the practical, work-ready skills you’ll need for full-time employment.

You’ll enjoy a mix of theory and practical learning, including live site visits with functioning equipment and software used in a variety of industries.

Apprenticeship Training Programme

Workplace Location: Galway
Experience Required: 0 Years
Employment Type: Full apprenticeship (Post 6 Month Probation Period)
Entry Requirements: Minimum Grade D in five subjects in the Department of Education & Skills Junior Certificate Examination
Start Date: Immediate Start

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Use test equipment to test, troubleshoot and calibrate process instrumentation and controls.
• Be familiar with programmable controllers and their application to process control.
• Calibrate and repair all types of instrumentation used for measurement and control of all process variables flow, pressure, temperature and level.
• Troubleshoot and repair the plant BEMS or EMS when necessary.
• Ensure appropriate preparation for all client visits is undertaken.
• Carry out calibrations in a safe and timely manner.
